7/3 First, I want to thank everyone for a successful semester. I think the class went pretty well for the most part. Take a break over the long weekend and get ready to hit the books again Summer 2 or the Fall. The grades for the final weren't as good as the first exam but they were still pretty good. About a 78 percent average so just slightly above a normal Bell Curve. The overall class grades are posted as well. After 6 tonight I will submit the grades to the university. There are still a few people that have not turned in some assignment which hurt them. See the grades page for instructions about how to submit your VB project if you have not already done so.
7/2 Again, final is in BUSI 356. Also, TURN IN YOUR ASSIGNMENTS. At this point, you can't get credit for them but you can save a letter grade for each assignment not currently turned in. The VB assignment must be turned in in class because it can't be emailed. So, bring it on a thumb drive or cd-rom. The other assignments can simply be zipped and emailed to me, not Manan. He does not need to grade late assignments.
7/1 The grades are posted. I've totaled everybody's points so they can see where they stand, even if they still have not turned in the "contract" though I have not show their individual grades. The totals reflect the scores I have on file as well as any points missed because of assignments not being turned in (50 points each). As a result, some grades are EXTREMELY low including one negative grade at this point. The final will obviously bring that grade up but not to the point of passing. Remember, you have until Thursday July 3rd at 6pm to turn in any late work. You will receive no credit BUT, you will not be docked that 50 points either.
6/26 IMPORTANT: the VB assignment is due in class Monday 6/30/2008. Bring the assignment on some type of media that I can copy over to my thumb drive (i.e. compatible non-campus email, thumb drive, cd-rom). Also, for the FINAL EXAM, the class will be in BUSI 356. It is a larger class room. All of our other remaining classes (6/30, 7/1, & 7/2) will be in Cury as usual.
6/19 Front Page grades are posted. Manan was pretty lenient so the average was pretty good. If all your grades are missing, it is because you still haven't turned in the contract. If you have a zero on an assignment, it means you turned in your assignment late. As I stated in an earlier posting, you will not get any points BUT, you won't be docked the letter grade IF you turn in the assignment to me (not Manan) by Thursday 7/3/2008 at 6 pm.
6/18 OK, so grades are posted. I believe it was an 86.9 percent average which is awesome. Great job everybody. Tomorrow we will be in the lab but we may be moving out of our Cury room due to the over crowding. I mentioned it to the secretary and she is looking for another room. I'll keep you posted.
6/17 Part of the publishing problem that some of you may be experiencing is the size of your web site. The server is set up to limit your account to 10 meg in size which isn't that large. If you have a lot of pictures, your site may be too large and as a result, cause an error. HTH
6/17 The due date for the Front Page assignment has been extended due to an error on the assignment sheet. It had yesterday's day but said Tuesday. Due to the possible confusion to some, the only fair thing to do was to extend the due date. Also, please note the changes in the submission process and due time for the VB project. The assignment sheet details it but in essence you can't email the VB project through the UNT email system. The assignment will be due in class.
6/14 The Excel assignment and VB assignment as well as their respective data files are posted. The data files contains all the files needed for both the tutorial and the assignment so you will need. You will need to download it to do your home work as well.
6/12 On the syllabus page, I posted the study guide (The exam description is the hyperlink). It is in Power Point format. I've included a slide for each chapter listing the important concepts/definitions. I've also included the total number of questions by chapter at the end along with the pages that questions are coming from. This should help direct your studies. I highly recommend both adding to the content in the slides AND getting together in groups to discuss various topics. Perhaps breaking up various chapters amongst group members who can then each focus on a specific area. then you can get together and "fill in other in" on what you learned. best of luck.
6/10 A couple of administrative issues. There were a few people that wanted/needed to turn the homework in late. The syllabus specifically states that no late homework is accepted. Additionally, the syllabus states that failure to turn in a homework will result in the automatic reduction of your letter grade for the course for each missed homework assignment. It is not fair to those who made the effort to get the homework in on time to get the same credit as those who procrastinate or have other issues that prohibit them from turning something in on time. However, I've decided to compromise a bit. If you turn in your homework late, you will receive a 0 for the assignment but your letter grade will not be reduced. You have until 6 pm Thursday (the day of the final) to turn in any missing homework. DO NOT SUBMIT IT TO MANAN (my grader). It is not fair to him to have to go back and grade a late assignment. I will turn in grades for the course that Friday morning so anything after 6 pm that Thursday will be deemed missing and the requisite letter grade reduction(s) will occur. On another note, when I get in in the morning, I will zip the web site that was completed in class today. That way we can all start from scratch with a known good web site. I will post it on my web site to the left so that everyone can access that. If you are one of the few that had access trouble this morning, hopefully you can have that worked out before class tomorrow. Good luck
6/5 That wasn't too bad was it? I noticed some students helping out others in order to follow along in class and I appreciate that. Others used the time to work on and turn in the assignment which is fine too. Be sure to read the instructions and email the assignment to both me and my grader. Also, if you need help, the lab has tutors for various classes including BCIS 2610. Be sure and use them. Lastly, feel free to work on the assignments with your peers. What you turn in needs to be yours and yours along but I have no problem with you working in groups to each get your individual assignments done.
6/5 Please note that I've added both Winzip and Winzip instructions on the left which are needed for turning in the assignments.
