BCIS 2610 FRONT PAGE PROJECT ASSISTANCE

Procedure for publishing your home page

A lot of students are having problems with publishing their web sites. I have included some additional information here that I thought could help solve some of your problems

     1)      Complete building your web page on your hard drive or flush drive.

2)      Activate your web space...you must have EUID and Eagle mail for this.

Go to https://www.unt.edu/webinfo/tutor/people/internet_explorer.htm for instructions on how to activate your web space.

3)      Upload your web page to the server

***Do not follow the procedure outlined at the URL above…instead follow the Front Page text book procedure.

Open your web page on Front page application

Click on “Publish Site button” just below the Insert menu OR

Open file menu then “publish site”

You should see a “Remote Web Site Properties dialog box”….refer to Fig 1-76 (pg 57)

Select WebDAV button

Enter this address in the Remote Web Site location textbox.

https://people.unt.edu/smm0010  use your euid instead of smm0010

 Click OK

Enter your User name and password in the dialog box …sees Fig 1-78 (pg 58 FrontPage textbook)

Click OK

You should see something similar to Fig 1-80 on page 59.

The difference is on the Remote Web Site you will have these two files

Index.htm and .ht.access

Both files are by default contained in your remote website and represent your temporary web page you created earlier on

***You must DELETE Index.htm file before uploading your files from local website to remote website

After deleting ONLY the Index.htm file on the remote web site, you can now move all the files from the local web site to the remote web site by clicking on each file and then clicking the arrow facing remote web site. This arrow is only activated when you click on one of the files in either Web Site.

Note. Some folders may not show up immediately after you click the arrow…don’t worry...they will show up later.

Click the Publish Web Site button…see fig 1-80

Click on view your Remote Web Site on the left bottom side of the dialog box below (Fig 1-80).

Be patient…may take a while before showing up

You should be able to view your published web site….if you don’t then it means you missed a step somewhere. Try it again.

If you succeeded then WOW!
