So here is my little Porsche. She is not in bad shape. I can't wait to get her done so I can get to driving around with the top off. It has sat for a couple of years and needs to have the fuel lines replaced and the door handles fixed. I will try to keep a log here of what I do to the car as well try to provide tips as I encounter problems. First tip; parts are expensive on Porsches. Opel parts are much more reasonable in price.
9-5-2003 - On the driver's side, I installed a new door stop, sometimes referred to as a door stay. I found it at Pelican Parts for about $85.00 but found another one on eBay that I got for about $13.00. Installation is easy and straight forward and doesn't really need any explanation. It is useful to note however that the driver's side and the passenger's side are interchangeable though by simply flipping the part over. Next project is to change the door flapper on one of the exterior handles and to re-key both door handles and the trunk as well as replace the fuel lines. 9-7-2003 - Removed the gas tank to inspect fuel lines. There are two lines that come out of the tank. One broke as I removed the tank so obviously it needs to be replaced. The lines travel down a center tunnel and out of the firewall at the rear. At that point, the smaller line was capped. The larger line went into the engine compartment where it went through a filter and electric fuel pump. From there, it split to two lines and one line went to each carburetor. Since it is supposed to have electronic fuel injection and the return fuel line is capped, the car has obviously been modified. Now I just need to figure out what the first step is to restore the car back to the original EFI. |
